This week Kannapolis Firefighters received specialized training for how to respond and treat sports injury emergencies.

Jim Bazluki, MAEd, LAT, ATC, a member of the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame, and who is on staff with Carolinas Healthcare System – Northeast conducted the three day training for Kannapolis Firefighters and Cabarrus EMS personnel.

The Kannapolis Fire Department is onsite at Northwest Cabarrus High School and A.L. Brown High School football games. They are also the first responders to any 911 call involving any sports injuries whether it be a back yard basketball game or any other type of school related sporting team.

With sports injuries it is important to be aware of the types of injuries that can occur as well as how to how and when to remove any protective gear the athlete may be wearing. In addition to treating the person staff trained on the best routes of access to and from school athletic fields.
