The City of Kannapolis was recently award a grant from the National Association of County and City Health Officials, through support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The grant monies will be used to replace the City’s aging fluoride feed system and pumps. The $24,050 grant covered the cost of replacing the water treatment plant’s fluoride chemical feed pumps, platform scale, injection flange and day tank.

According to the CDC, drinking fluoridated water keeps teeth strong and reduces cavities by about 25% in children and adults. Adding fluoride to the water supply has been used in the United States as a means of dental health for over 70 years. This joint grant represents both the community’s and national health officials’ efforts to increase dental health through fluoridated drinking water.
