Mitchell “Dale” Burris has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant with the Kannapolis Police Department’s Patrol Division.

Burris joined the Kannapolis Police Department in June 2011 as a recruit. He has served as a Patrol Officer from his initial appointment until his assignment to the Traffic Unit in 2015. 

He has earned the designation as a Master Police Officer, is a member of the Honor Guard, a negotiator on the Special Response Team (SRT) and serves as a Field Training Officer.

Burris was the 2013 recipient of the Roger Dale Carter Memorial Service Award and he has completed the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Certificate Program through the North Carolina Justice Academy which requires over five hundred hours of training.

Burris holds an Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and has completed 2,694 hours of professional training. 

Burris is a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He and his wife, Holly Smith Burris, have twins: a daughter, Randi and a son, Cameron. He is the son of Roy and Sherri Burris of Mount Pleasant.
