Kannapolis Fire Department is currently conducting its annual “Fill the Boot” campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Firefighters will be in heavily-traveled areas of the city collecting cash and coins as passersby “fill the boots” of our local heroes.

Kannapolis Fire Department does not keep any of those funds. All monetary donations go directly to the MDA. However, local fire departments do compete for “bragging rights” to see what organization can donate the most to this worthy organization.

Captain Scott Smith, who oversees the MDA campaign, has been happy with the collection results the last several years and hopes to turn in even more money this year. Smith states, “I would like to thank Kannapolis residents and guests of our city for their commitment to supporting the MDA. Kannapolis Fire Department’s contributions have proven to be an asset to the association. Over the past three years, we have given an average of $20,000 per year from our “Fill the Boot” efforts and our contributions continue to grow. I hope that we exceed our goal for 2019.

Kannapolis Fire Department will begin their 2019 “Fill the Boot” campaign on May 18th and be out again on May 25th. If you see them, slow down and use caution when approaching the firefighters or their trucks. Don’t put yourselves or the lives of others in danger.

If you do not see one of the trucks but would like to contribute to the 2019 “Fill the Boot” campaign, you can drop off any monetary donations at the Kannapolis Fire Administrative offices located on the 3rd floor of Kannapolis City Hall (401 Laureate Way) through May 27th at 9:00 a.m.
